We are looking for the right candidate to join the Insights & Analytics team at the New York Mets. The team supports all aspects of business operations, including but not limited to ticketing, sponsorship, marketing, and accounting.

We’re a group of analytical thinkers who use SQL, Python, JavaScript, PHP, Tableau, and other tools to understand and improve business operations. There’s no expectation that the successful candidate has seen everything, but we do require our teammates to dive in, learn quickly, and ask questions.

The Director of Data Science establishes, plans, and administers the overall policies and goals of the data science function. They provide strategic guidance and direction for data science, machine learning and AI based analytical efforts for the business side of the organization. The Data Science Director determines the appropriate tools, techniques, staffing and methodologies that will be used in modeling to produce actionable results that align to business goals both for revenue generation and to create business efficiencies for the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with large and complex data sets to solve a wide array of challenging problems using different analytical and statistical approaches

  • Design & build new ML (Machine Learning) models to optimize customer engagement across all channels to drive increases in revenue

  • Analyze in-place processes and seek improvement and deprecations as necessary

  • Use R or Python to analyze data, build models, and make business recommendations

  • A cool head when confronted with new responsibilities, technologies, and deadlines


  • Proficiency in SQL

  • Proficient with using scripting language such as Python and data manipulation/analysis libraries such as Scikit-learn, Pandas, etc. for analyzing and modeling data.

  • Proficiency in utilizing API calls

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language – PHP, Python, R, JavaScript

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in using multiple data science methodologies to solve complex business problems (e.g. statistical analysis, research science, machine learning and deep learning techniques, data modeling, regression modeling, financial analysis, demand modeling, etc.)

  • Exposure to a visual reporting layer (Tableau (preferred), Power BI, Looker, etc.)

  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies such as Google (GCP) and Azure

  • Degree in a quantitative field (mathematics, computer science, physics, economics, engineering, statistics, operations research, quantitative social science, etc.)

  • Proven experience in communicating verbally and in writing to technical peers and leadership teams with various levels of technical knowledge, educating them about our systems, and sharing insights and data-driven recommendations

Salary Range:

$145,616.00 - $194,155.00
