Our Game Plan

The New York Islanders Hockey Club is one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports with a deeply passionate and loyal fanbase. We’ve won four consecutive Stanley Cups in the early 1980s and are well on our way to add to that legacy. The next few years will be action-packed as we complete our world-class, state-of-the-art arena, reposition our brand in the Long Island and Metro New York markets, and prepare to reclaim the Stanley Cup.

We are hiring for a Senior Director, Technology to manage the technology function for all New York Islanders entities. A strategic thinker who can identify technology trends that may support or impede the success of our business. With this role we are looking for someone to refine and improve our internal business and technology alignment while delivering the highest of standards.

How to Make the Team

Reporting to the VP of Strategy and Analytics the Senior Director of Technology will have operational responsibility for IT, including Islander elements within the arena. You will continue to refine and improve the club’s Business Applications and seek opportunities to innovate

Show Us You Can

  • Provide insight and support development of the technology vision to enable the growth of the business including the fanbase, commercial relationships and bringing about operational efficiencies.

  • Build, develop and motivate a technology team (including 3rd party suppliers) inspired to deliver best in class services.

  • Focus on delivery of solutions that support the business and provide best customer experience for all stakeholders.

  • Working with the VP of Strategy and Analytics manage an operational and capital expenditure budget looking at cost reduction opportunities, consolidation and strategic partner relationships.

  • Employ technology principles and standards – secure, performing, flexible, scalable and sustainable.

  • Build internal business and IT alignment, as well as teamwork, across multiple business areas

  • Create a culture of innovation, driving change in core business, and delivery of new solutions and innovation.

  • Act as the main point of contact for delivery of technology for the NHL as it relates to the Islanders.

  • Manage the technology needs of the various NYI office locations

  • Deliver and support technology as required by NYI Hockey Operations and the team, including at the arena as well as the training facility and when “on the road”.

  • Support the arena Technology and Game Presentation teams with resolving issues on game day or assisting with defining and implementing new initiatives to enhance the visitor experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following disciplines:

    • Infrastructure selection and maintenance - including disaster recovery and business continuity

    • Software selection and maintenance - including Retail, Food & Beverage (on-line and POS), Sales and Customer Relationship Management, Marketing, and Business Intelligence systems

    • Audiovisual selection and maintenance - including displays, sound and production systems

  • Cybersecurity

  • Data Management

  • Supplier Management

  • Network Administration

  • Business Analysis

  • Project Management

  • Unified Communications

  • Service Desk

Your Training & Talent

  • A proven technology leader with a minimum of 10 years multi discipline IT experience

  • Experience of running a Technology function, including incident management, in Sports and Entertainment / FCMG / Retail and/or experience within a multi-channel organisation.

  • Takes accountability for tracking business plans and goals to ensure technology delivery.

  • Demonstrated driver of change in the core business, and in the delivery of new solutions and innovation projects.

  • Skilled in commercial and partnership negotiations as well as supplier selection.

Where You’ll Go

You will primarily report to our Floral Park, NY office, along with:

  • Attending home games and other events (events can fall on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays)

  • Traveling on occasion with the possibility of air travel and/or an overnight stay (<5% travel)
