The Birmingham Squadron, the G League affiliate team of the New Orleans Pelicans, is seeking a utility player to join the team as the Business Operations Manager, who will play an integral part in ensuring the success of the team from behind the scenes. This detail-oriented individual will serve as the liaison between the Squadron and the arena and enforce G League policies, oversee various contracts, accounting and reporting functions, and oversee all merchandise and retail operations. Responsibilities:
Assist General Manager with scheduling team travel and lodging, away team hotel stays, in-town travel, and coordinating practice facilities as needed
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Legacy Arena, negotiate holds and dates for scheduling, booking dates for practice, floor maintenance, and shoot-arounds, and troubleshoot issues on game days and events
Assist Director of Sales with building out seasons, events, season ticket packages, and other promotional offers in Archtics (Ticketmaster) platform
Oversee and implement all G League event policies – ensure compliance
Manage the accounting function for the Squadron, including but not limited to:
Tracking daily account balances, deposits, and outgoing transactions
Book journal entries to maintain departmental budgets for the team
Monitor and settle credit card transactions for Business Operations in the Birmingham office
Control the flow of accounts payable filing with the accounting department and counterparts in New Orleans
Manage the retail merchandise operations, inclusive of all ecommerce and point of sale activities in the arena
Plan, order, and manage inventory for retail merchandise sales
Work with NBA G League office to manage inventory under the league-wide exclusivity
Set up point of sale operations through Shopify POS
Train and manage retail staff for game-day retail sales
Work with ecommerce partner (Snow Commerce)
Oversee and implement all G League policies and procedures to ensure compliance with League Office requirements
Assist Director of Sales with drafting, preparing, and reviewing contracts and agreements with corporate partners
Assist General Manager and general counsel with worker’s compensation claims, insurance reporting, governmental reporting requirements, tax filing and business license filing updates
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sport management, hospitality and tourism management, and/or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 3 years’ of experience working in the sports or live event industry, specifically in operations or business support
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), CRM, and ticketing platforms such as Archtics is preferred
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the schedule of the G League games
Demonstrated level of business acumen, creative problem-solving abilities, and professionalism
Excellent communication skills (oral and written), relationship-building abilities, and attention to detail
An openness to learning, superior work ethic individually and in a group setting, positive attitude, and self-starter mentality
