This position supports the VP of Wellness and Clinical Services in implementing components of the Total Wellness platform. This role is responsible for assisting in the evaluation, promotion and expansion of current clinical resources, enhancing the peer-to-peer model of providing care to members of the NFL community, and increasing communication with key stakeholders.


  • Assisting the VP, Wellness and Clinical Services in providing wellness related support to all members of the NFL Player ecosystem and larger NFL Community.

  • Providing support in the development, promotion, and implementation of Total Wellness programming, including the NFL Rookie Experience and Rookie Success Program.

  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders including Team Clinicians, Team Heads of Player Engagement, NFL Legends Community, Team Medical Staff, NFL Health and Safety, and the NFL Players Association.

  • Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of all internal and external Wellness related resources including: player benefits, the Player Care Foundation, Cigna Work/Life Resources, the NFL Life Line, the Trust, and transition programs and services.

  • Assisting in the development and provision of mental health trainings and other educational resources to expand mental health literacy among members of the NFL Community.

  • Developing a plan of action for individuals requesting support, providing referrals to appropriate resources as needed

  • Maintaining accurate documentation of utilization of internal and external resources

  • Providing follow-up engagement with individuals making referral requests

  • Identifying and implementing concrete strategies to increase utilization of current clinical resources

  • Providing the day-to-day oversight and coordination of the NFL Total Wellness peer to peer support program

  • Identifying and implementing concrete strategies to increase peer to peer integration and impact

  • Collecting and analyzing data to identify behavioral and career trends among members utilizing Total Wellness resources, preparing and presenting reports related to factors that impact member wellbeing

  • Contributing to the planning of NFL organized efforts to enhance communication and collaboration among NFL stakeholders, including Clinician calls, Player Health Summits, and the Annual Clinician Summit

  • Evaluating and vetting new clinical resources, including solicitations from external sources

  • Contributing to the strategic planning process to enhance and execute Total Wellness strategy

  • Maintaining confidentiality in working with highly sensitive information.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Doctorate degree in Psychology (Ph.D.), and completion of an APPIC accredited Pre-doctoral Clinical Internship;

  • Licensed mental health provider with a minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience working with a multicultural population.

  • Demonstrated ability to interview, effectively engage, identify and assess player needs

  • Ability to triage and provide appropriate referrals for other community behavioral health providers and services

  • Experience in crisis assessment/management/intervention, and short-term treatment

  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated experience with research, data input and analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across varying organizational levels

  • Demonstrated ability to assess and develop improvements for programs

  • Ability to work within and assist others in navigating through complex systems

  • Excellent communication skills, including but not limited to interpersonal, telephone, and written communication that may be difficult/sensitive

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience playing the sport of football

  • Experience working with athletes in a clinical setting

  • Overtime exempt. Evening/weekend/off-hours work required
