Overview /Objective

The NFL Data & Analytics team is looking for a Director to lead the data science team responsible for building analytics, optimization and reporting in support of NFL revenue growth, League measurement processes and analytic governance. The team is responsible for developing advanced analytic methods for revenue optimization return on investment measurement, new methods for determining audience exposure and related activities.

Responsibilities

  • Partner across the organization.

  • Answer complex business questions by using appropriate statistical techniques such as parametric tests, casual inference, regression, factor analysis and clustering

  • Build and manage machine learning models

  • Develop data science strategies to support experimentation and measurement

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to encourage best practices for experimental design and data analysis while creating compelling interactive visualizations and presentations to enhance decision making capabilities throughout the league.

  • Design and run experiments to gather data

  • Maximize analytics value by improving data management, data quality and governance

  • Build a high-performance team of data scientists and analysts

Required Qualifications

Requires a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics or a related quantitative field, and at least seven (6) years of prior experience in a data science or analytics position.

In the alternative, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics or a related quantitative field, and at least eight (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a data science or analytics position in the sports or entertainment industry.

Must have five (5) years of experience with the following:

  • Leading data analysts, data scientists, and data engineers to build analytical products or services in the sports/media/entertainment industry

  • Collecting, evaluating, and effectively using volumes of customer, transaction and engagement data in a cloud-based data warehouse/data lake (preferably AWS) using SQL and Python

  • Experience with data management, data quality and data/analytical governance tools and frameworks

  • Answer complex business questions by using appropriate statistical techniques such as parametric tests, casual inference, regression, factor analysis and clustering

  • Exposure to MLOps and production management of models

  • Performing statistical analysis including A/B testing and multivariate testing to design and evaluate omnichannel marketing effectiveness

  • Integrating data science learnings/models with the marketing technology tools (preferably Adobe) to make insights actionable

  • Creating visualizations and storyboarding for effective communication to senior leadership

  • Experience working with agile methodologies using Kanban boards and Scrums for effective project management

  • Hiring and upskilling analytical and data science talent or manage 3rd party analytics partners

Salary / Pay Range

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week.

  • FLSA exempt.
