Position Summary: This position is part of the Global Strategy & Innovation (GSI) group, leading efforts to deliver data-driven insights to stakeholders and empower decisions around the NBA's engaged fanbase. The Team Data Strategic Lead will be tasked with creating an end-to-end data experience for team and league users to leverage across specific business use cases. Ensuring its success will require regular interfacing with strategic, legal, technical, and other experts to align across common goals and standards - this role will work closely with project managers and analysts to ensure the ingestion of fan data and enrichment of records with key sources. In addition, the Strategic Lead will create a roadmap for additional non-fan data sources that can provide answers to a variety of business questions closer to real-time.

Major Responsibility:

  • Lead strategic management of the NBA Leaguewide Data Initiative, which will support data sharing between teams and the league

  • Work with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, BI developers, and data engineers to align strategic initiatives with relevant tasks

  • Work with the Business Solutions team to develop comprehensive reporting around Platform outputs

  • Work with Team Analytics Leads to understand use cases and refine data delivery

  • Manage project management software and PM-software integrations for growing analytics team

  • Serve as the internal and external-facing champion for the Leaguewide Data Initiative, providing ongoing status updates in the form of written communication as well as presentations and other verbal communication to league and team executives

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 7+ years of experience in consulting or stakeholder-driven roles, including multiple years of managing a team

  • Foundational understanding of business needs and operational requirements facing the organization

  • Excellent critical thinking with creative solutions to overcome challenges and meet business requirements

  • Strong collaborator who can work effectively within a matrixed organization to influence and drive results

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into simple and intuitive communications

  • Understanding of and experience with data infrastructure, especially the setups and vendors most commonly used in sports, preferred but not required

Education: Bachelor's or advanced degree in business or quantitative field

Salary Range:

  • $150,000 to $175,000 per year
