Position Summary:

As part of the broader Global Strategy & Innovation team, and sitting within the Consumer & Fan Insights team, this position will support of a variety of NBA business units including Marketing, TMBO, Affiliate Leagues and Global Partnerships. The role will provide insight functions including the mining of syndicated data sources, design, execution and analysis of custom research projects, tracking brand health, informing and optimizing marketing initiatives, measuring and tracking the impact of partnerships, as well as supporting organizational strategy and innovation with actionable insights. By working closely with the Fan & Partner Insights Senior Lead you will be helping develop and support NBA's growing global business.

  • Help support the Consumer & Fan Insights team initiatives, working closely with the Fan & Partner Insights lead

  • Be an established expert and go-to-resource for fan insights utilizing both primary and syndicated resources to support marketing strategy, new business and partner renewal initiatives.

  • Work closely with key stakeholders across internal business units including League Marketing, Global Partnerships, Affiliate Leagues, Global Regional Teams and TMBO/Teams to understand needs, define objectives, design methods and mine resources to deliver desired results

  • Support the design, execution, analysis, interpretation and reporting of primary market research studies

  • Respond to requests from across NBA’s global business, including requests about international NBA fan insights and partnership insights using the appropriate data source available

  • Write questionnaires, program/script surveys, analyze and create reports that draw out meaningful insights to help inform strategic decisions

  • Help manage relationships with research agencies

  • Visualize and story tell with data to articulate narratives around NBA fans

  • Present insights to stakeholders across business units

  • Distribute regular and ad hoc reports with actionable insights in response to requests for research using robust data sets

  • Management and optimization of the NBA Brand Tracker to track brand health, inform strategy across business units and track impacts of business initiatives over time

  • Support marketing creative concept, pre and post testing need for both domestic and international linear and digital assets

  • Provide fan and market insights utilizing syndicated resources including MRI/Simmons, YouGov, Global Web Index and other third-party data sources available.

  • Act as a strategy consultant in support of new business teams, proactively helping to identify potential partnership opportunities and build compelling stories while prospecting for potential partners and target accounts.

  • Utilize data analytics software platforms to mine and analyze both syndicated and primary data sources

  • Support all functions of the NBA Fan Research Communities, from engagement pieces to survey deployment, analysis and packaging of insights

  • Help develop and maintain insights dashboards using data visualization tools to help concisely summarize, visualize and build compelling storylines with data to articulate narratives around NBA fan profiles, brand health and partner brand/category engagement and partnership impact

  • Help support Partnership Measurement strategy including conducting primary research such as partnership health trackers, amplification studies and media valuations

  • Monitor fan and consumer trends to identify and develop insights with adaptations for NBA strategy, such as audience monetization, content consumption behavior, partnership effectiveness, etc.

  • Identify opportunities to expand capabilities through exploring new vendors, methodologies and tools/resources

  • Work collaboratively with other areas of the Research & Insights Team to provide more holistic insights around fan profiles and partnership effectiveness

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of market research experience

  • Experience conducting primary research projects both using quantitative and qualitative methodologies

  • Experience mining & analyzing syndicated research resources - i.e. GWI, MRI-Simmons, YouGov, ComScore, Nielsen, SimilarWeb, Data.ai, etc.

  • General experience with crosstab programs and/or software e.g. Telmar

  • Experience using & managing Insights Communities

  • Experience programming/scripting surveys using professional research survey software

  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Experience conducting research & analyzing consumer data across multiple sources to identify trends

  • Excellent communication/presentation skills

  • Ability to be flexible & adaptive is a must

  • Proactive, thorough, detail-oriented, creative, curious and highly organized

  • Must be a team player

  • A passion for understanding consumer behavior

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with ability to convert complex findings and large data sets into insightful, concise and easily digestible reports and presentations

  • Able to visualize and tell compelling stories using a range of data sources

  • Strong MS Office skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to learn new tools quickly and often independently with minimal formal training

  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills

  • Digital marketing knowledge/experience is a plus

  • Sports landscape knowledge is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree
