Position Summary

Technology is a key ingredient in delivering the NBA’s ambitious global goals. We are seeking a strong Agile Delivery Leader to join our Program Delivery and Business Operations. This role will be responsible for advancing agile ways of working by supporting technology teams delivering digital products and services across our leagues while fully embracing our departmental mission: Drive innovation through technology to empower our colleagues, delight our fans and safeguard our brand.

As the Technology organization continues to grow, our portfolio of digital products and capabilities has increased significantly over the last couple of years. We follow Agile practices for Software Development, and this role will be a hands-on leader who will drive further adoption and guide our agile teams delivering value to our customers. We are looking for a dynamic, collaborative personality that can champion agility, coach teams and customers, while balancing program delivery activities to ensure we meet our customer needs and expectations. This individual will work closely with the Head of Application Development and the group leads in that organization.

The ideal candidate is passionate about leading change, helping shift mindset, fostering new ways of thinking and working and building new capabilities that will help us drive the business forward. We are seeking someone who is laser-focused on customer satisfaction, building high performing teams and willing to wear many hats – so flexibility and a can-do attitude are critical!

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead with an agile mindset, advocate and champion Agile Ways of Working across the delivery teams instituting agile and lean principles through doing, coaching, teaching and guiding

  • Provide governance oversight, management and support for multiple product development teams ensuring agile methods are applied in a flexible/hybrid manner that includes traditional project management practices such as budget management, team capacity management, status reporting, and working with deadlines

  • Build trust and strong relationships with our business partners through coaching/guiding them on their roles & responsibilities within an agile team including the following: defining product vision, MVP, product roadmaps, user stories and backlog management

  • Apply the agile framework fit for purpose (i.e., Scrum, Kanban), facilitating events and producing artifacts, training, coaching, and fostering a continuous improvement environment

  • Develop training materials and provide training and workshops to teams and leaders in agile principles and practices, roles and responsibilities, frameworks, estimation, and writing stories to name a few

  • Provide creative solutions to agile adoption challenges like resistance to change, people and staffing constraints, and competing priorities

  • Develop dashboards for tracking, measuring and reporting metrics such as team value delivery, customer satisfaction, team happiness, effectiveness of agile adoption, and team maturity

  • Train and mentor other scrum masters and program/project managers on their role

  • Be part of the agile enablement team and help define and implement the strategic plan, roadmap, coaching and training plans, performance measurement and continuous improvement across the organization

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM or PSM)

  • SAFe and/or Agile Coaching certification is a plus

  • 7+ years of experience as an agile project/program manager or scrum master managing multiple distributed teams simultaneously

  • 3+ years as an agile coach; ideally participated in or led at least one major agile transformation effort

  • Experience with Scrum, Kanban, SAFe or other agile frameworks understanding fit for purpose

  • Hands-on experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Trello, Asana, Airtable, Notion etc.; JIRA/Confluence Administration skills are a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to partner and communicate effectively with non-technical team members, resolving contending or contradictory objectives, and unifying disparate ideas into a homogenized solution

  • Possess the ability to influence others, lead and implement change, and standardize processes in a complex business environment

  • A passion for mentoring and growing the potential of others

  • Great collaborator - should be ready to go above and beyond to help the team and will not shy away from asking for help if needed

Education:

  • BS/BA or greater or equivalent on-the-job experience

  • At least 7 years of work experience in program delivery/product management roles demonstrating increasing leadership and career progression
