Homestead-Miami Speedway celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020, as it continues to generate more than $301 million of annual economic benefit. The Speedway was home to NASCAR’s championship races from 2002 through 2019 – the longest such stretch in pro sports. It is regarded as the most competitive 1.5-mile track on the circuit, and also boasts a 2.21-mile road course, which is used for many racing disciplines throughout the year. In addition to its NASCAR race weekend, the track plays host to events of all types more than 300 days out of the year. NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Director of Track Operations based in Homestead-Miami, Florida.

Position Purpose
Provide oversight and guidance to Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) Track Operations staff. Services to include planning, supervising, and completing tasks to prepare racetrack and related facilities for all track activity including major NASCAR Cup weekend and other events and track rentals at HMS.
Specific duties
Racetrack inspection, repair, and preparation – asphalt, retaining wall, catchfence, pit road, and other areas; line and logo painting; competition support including scoring system, caution lights and related equipment.
Prepare / supervise scheduling of personnel and equipment for track events – clean-up trucks, restoration (jet dryers, buffalo blowers, etc.), and stand-by services (fence repair crew, DART trailer, etc.).
Work with full-time, part-time, and seasonal HMS, Southeast Region and NASCAR staff in addition to vendors and industry stakeholders for optimal event execution.
Provide guidance and attention to budget and accounting management.
Performance Measures
Ongoing dialogue and interaction with Southeast Region and HMS leadership as well as NASCAR department heads to assure that the goals and objectives of the events are being met. A year-end review will determine where success is accomplished and/or where improvements are needed.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree preferred; high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Minimum of four years of track operations experience and/or training in addition to supervision of others.
Experience working with outside vendors and contractors.
Must be organized and detail oriented.
Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Work Conditions/Physical Requirements
Work performed in environments with a wide range of temperature and weather conditions (extreme heat/cold).
Work requires extended periods of standing and walking.
Frequently lifting and carrying objects up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
Maintaining balance to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching on even or uneven surfaces.
In addition to the normal work schedule, which varies depending on the season, must be able to work extended hours during events and weekends.
Special Position Requirements
Ability to withstand physical challenges of respective multi-tasks.
Position may require travel as requested.
