Position Summary:

The Data Engineer, Business Systems will work within their department to improve the quality of life for all employees at the Minnesota Twins utilizing a combination of innovative technology and intrapreneurial creativity. This team partners with departments across the organization, especially with the Business Strategy & Analytics department to produce business leverage with customer and product data by developing and maintaining efficient data pipelines using cloud data warehouse tools. They will transform data into clean data sets - modeling data in a way that empowers data analysts to derive key business insights and business users answers to their questions. They will generate clean, fresh, reliable and scalable data assets for business focused analytical and reporting consumption.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Solve data acquisition and integration problems by creating ETL/ELT/PLT processes to aggregate disparate sources of data into a centralized data lake to enable new business systems initiatives and data driven perspectives.

  • Engage with diverse business units and help to steer organizational data continuity strategies by acting as a technical conduit to analytical data driven business decisions.

  • Design and implement performant data structures/sets for use in reporting, ad-hoc querying, and visualization needs in cloud environments.

  • Develop and monitor systems to detect and prevent/alert poor data behaviors.

  • Responsible for data governance ensuring consumer data privacy and security adhering to the Minnesota Twins Information Security Policies.

  • Collaborate with MLB and third-party vendors to ensure mission critical data is ingested, cleansed, and validated for club use.

  • Develop/Implement/Consume with Cloud-based technologies. This includes database design and development, developing and implementing ETL/ELT Automation (SSIS, Apache technologies, etc.), XML/JSON, and data cleansing.

  • Maintain performance tuning and query optimization.

  • Maintain SQL server daily maintenance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering; Information Systems, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of applicable Data Engineer/Architect work experience with data structures that have a customer driven focus.

  • 3+ years of experience with design and general knowledge of SQL Serve Expertise, Data Warehouse, Big-O notation, and ORM.

  • 3+ years of experience with the programming languages T-SQL, P/PL-SQL, Presto SQL, and at least one OOP language (Python, JavaScript, C#, etc.)

  • General understanding of cloud platforms, such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Azure Platform Technologies, Data Modeling (can operationalize ML notebooks), and Apache technologies (Beam, Spark, Airflow, etc.) is preferred.

  • Experience with legacy technologies, such as SSRS and SSAS is preferred.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of design and integration principles for complex, heterogeneous databases.

  • Proven data modeling experience.

  • Efficient communication skills and team enabling interpersonal skills.

  • Priority focused time management skills, and be open to expanding technology skill sets.

  • Act according to the organizational values.

  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work in a seated position for majority of work day.

  • Must be able to be productive utilizing a computer, keyboard and telephone.

  • Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times.

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to walk sets to visit fans during games.

  • Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the offices, dining room, etc.

  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling.
