The Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for effective day-to-day maintenance and operation of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational needs. This position will be working a set amount of games in which they will be an IT representative throughout the game.

Essential Functions: System and Network Engineering

  • Engineering solutions for various projects and operational needs;

  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements;

  • Oversee the health and function of the Networking and Server Infrastructure across multiple sites;

  • Install and configure corporate enterprise systems using industry best practices;

  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures;

  • Contribute to and maintain current Marlins IT system standards and documentation;

  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

Operations and Support:

  • Provide transitional support for Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate, troubleshoot and document findings for issues;

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups;

  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible vulnerabilities;

  • Work with MLB on cybersecurity activity and investigations as needed;

  • Anti-Virus Server and Client application maintenance;

  • Perform regular audits of current file systems within a business lifecycle approach;

  • Create, change, and delete or otherwise manage user accounts including VOIP accounts;

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.


  • Apply OS patches and software upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary;

  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. To include Knowledge Base and Technical Documentation;

  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning;

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required;

  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment;

  • Maintain Disaster Recovery software and workflow.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • IT/CIS/MIS AA Degree preferred;

  • Windows / Mac OS desktop support knowledge;

  • Windows 2012R2/2016/2019/2022 Server;

  • Microsoft Azure / 365 applications;

  • Microsoft Exchange 2019 Hybrid environment;

  • Understanding of infrastructure technologies; i.e. switches, routers, firewalls;

  • VMware vCenter and ESXi 6.0/6.5/6.7/7.0;

  • Citrix Cloud DaSS Management;

  • Cisco Switches a plus;

  • Palo Alto Firewalls a plus;

  • Maintenance\Management of enterprise NAS and SAN solutions;

  • Knowledge of iSCSI, FiberChannel, communications;

  • Asset/Image Management and patch management solution;

  • SolarWinds NPM;

  • Microsoft Active Directory and Security best practices;

  • MCSA/MCSE, A+, N+, CCNA are a plus;

  • Working knowledge of best practice backup policies and procedures.

Suggested Education & Experience Guidelines:

  • 2 years of active work experience in a Junior Systems Administrator (or equivalent) role with a IT/CIS/MIS AA Degree;

  • 3 years of active work experience in a Junior Systems Administrator (or equivalent) role without a degree.
