Do you want to work for a Championship organization? We have the job for you! The Miami HEAT are looking for a Director, Risk Management that will be working with the Chief Risk Management Officer! Duties may entail overseeing the day to day activities of events taking place on the property, maintaining full compliance of all Federal, State and Local regulation. Supervise a safe working environment to all that work at our facility, as well off-site, which will involve detail walk-throughs of our facility, to assure a safe working environment to all that works and visit our facility, FTX Arena. Will assist facility staff, partners, and the daily activities involved in the successful execution of events and maintenance of the facility by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

This is deemed a vital position for the organization, which is highly responsible in managerial and administrative work in planning, organizing, be on a “STANDING BY” emergency setting during employment. The candidate needs to be a strong teammate, willingness to roll up their sleeves, able to earn trust quickly, and is effective at managing any risk on the fly. Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and lead all aspects of risk and claims management (excluding player policies) process for the FTX Arena and other related operations (including construction operations) being undertaken by HEAT Group companies.

  • Assist in the development of training of regulatory matters, operational policies and procedures, configured to the current or become a leader in the Best Practices in the industry, and risk and control standards.

  • Become familiar with insurance policies and coverage maintained by the HEAT Group, insurance requirements of County and City agreements and ensure that policies remain in full force and effect as required. Assist as liaison with insurance brokers and underwriters as vital to ensure policies meet risk requirements. Ensure that insurance brokers are providing contracted services in a timely manner. Participate in regular claims review and stewardship meetings.

  • Assist Human Resources with employee worker compensation claims as required including but not limited to incident investigation and reporting if necessary and follow up and claims management.

  • Assist CRMO and Human resources as necessary with safety manuals; coordinate with various departments the training of all employees in workplace safety procedures that conform to corporate standards.

  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures for the facility that pertain to Workplace Safety and Risk Management. Assist in preparation of employee “safety” bulletins and notices as necessary, such as those provided by CDC, OSHA, or any other Federal guideline advisories.

  • Maintain and catalog all the insurance certificate from any and all third parties attending to the facility, including but not limited to, promoters, acts, sponsors, contractors, sub – contractors and sub – sub contractors, etc. Review said certificate and ensure compliance to corporate and contractual requirements and make mention of any certificates that fail to align with the facility. Forward and / or confirm coverage limits with brokers of the insured. Keeping abreast of any regulatory changes, new laws that are being imposed, and how these changes can impact and identify new key risk areas in our operations.

  • Assist CRMO and be responsible for third party (guest) incident investigations, reporting and claims management. Maintain incident report forms. Supervise Part – Time / Full Time event staff, all departmental Heat Group employees, to include staff from our contract partner providers. Act as liaison with EMS / Emergency Response teams. Maintain accurate incident report files. Refer third party claimants and legal counsel to insurers for response to all legal inquires thru Decus Tecum Discovery legal process. Participate in legal defense as necessary, to include pre – deposition and formal depositions with opposing counsels. Able to report back to CRMO, communications related to the monitoring, report updates regularly on the third-party liability case management activities of active medical cases in litigation.

  • Inspects equipment, facilities and work practices for hazardous or unsafe working conditions.

  • Reports unsafe conditions to CRMO or respected department.

  • Conduct accident investigations and perform root cause of analysis.

  • Provides timely / monthly summary to CRMO on all accident / claims report for review.

  • Assist CRMO in providing technical information and advice in the development of safety regulations.

  • Assist CRMO during training sessions related to safety programs and safety regulation.

  • Prepare regular safety audits of third party and employee work practices. Prepare reports and follow-up to ensure correction of defective or deficient practices are remedy.

  • Complete video reviews and investigations for companywide matters and legal issues. Ensure adherence to established standard methodologies for incident reporting, forensic video review/retention and maintaining electronic records for review by executive level personnel. (Preservation of CCTV)

  • CODES, In conjunction with Engineering and Security collaborate with Fire-Rescue and Police departments in risk management issues and ensure facility’s fire and emergency safety systems are in operating order and aligned with all codes, ordinance laws. Participate in the training of full and part-time staff for emergency procedures.

  • Work extended and irregular hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and have a flexible work schedule as needed.

  • In conjunction with Engineering and Security departments develop a simple workable change of condition reporting system i.e. sprinkler shutdowns, fire alarm zone de-commissioned etc.

  • Participate in disaster preparedness and recovery procedures.

  • Perform any other risk management related duties as required.

  • The ability to work collaboratively and independently, ability to navigate the premises in the shortest amount of time, requiring the immediate use of neighboring stairs during events.

  • Performs periodic facility inspections on all Heat Group Operations on all onsite and offsite, to ensure compliance with OSHA, DERM, EPA Environmental Regulations, CDC, NFPA 101, CFR 1900 – 1910, 1926.

  • Assist CRMO as to any changes and abreast of current safety regulations and provides recommendation for the Safety Plan updates.

  • Able to operate multiple hand-held radios, to communicate to the various department to address any concerns that may arise.

  • Be able to monitor Social Media platforms as needed. Have advance analytical skills, fore sight of possible conditions that can be generated and / or institute preventative measure to avoid possible unsafe conditions that may arise.

  • Have excellent project management and organization skills and ability to handle several projects at one time, and prioritize which project or incident should take precedent, especially during emergencies. As well as flexibility to change priorities base on the needs in a fast-paced working environment.

  • Be able to work independently during events, as an observer and be very pro-active in accident prevention measures, that need to be taken on the spot, or with the assistance of neighboring departments in charge of the area as required. Safety initiatives to reduce losses.

  • Incorporates different methods and styles to motivate and gain participation of staff, to gain task accomplishment.

  • Shows interests in identifying potential problems, opportunities to Elevate improvements and take the appropriate action.

  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Training and Development and contribute to the planning and operation of the Risk Management Department.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point)

  • Demonstrates knowledge in area of focus, in Risk Management and Accident Prevention.

  • Knowledge of Compliance with all applicable laws, Federal, State and Local Regulations to include Health and Environment regulations in the medical field.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four – year college or university. Appropriate OSHA training and / or insurance risk, claims management course and certifications and a minimum of five years related experience and / or training in a risk management or claims management industry in a supervisory or Insurance management positions, property insurance, workers compensation, property and casualty or industrial safety with a minimum of 5 years of proven experience working in a senior leadership capacity is required. Demonstrate knowledge in Construction practices and appropriate OSHA regulation and familiarization of Code of Federal Regulations. Experience in Law Enforcement is a plus. Experience in the medical field is a plus. CSP

Demonstrate knowledge of laws, regulations, regulatory mentorship, and rules impacting sporting service industry. Proficient in Risk Management and Safety Procedures, Insurance terminology. Must possess a detailed understanding of proper report writing skills. Able to understand and guarantee that all laws, building codes, ordinance, policies, procedures, risk management and emergency procedures are followed. Familiar with the principles and techniques of supervision, training, budget preparation and purchasing. Ability to read, comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other related materials. Be familiar with the principles and techniques of supervision, training, budget preparation and purchasing. Strong ability to work with all levels of management within the company.

Experience in compliance, legal or other control – related function in the general industry. Minimum of 3 – 5 years of industry relevant experience and professional experience (Risk Management, Audit, Third Party Risk, Operational Risk, Information Security)

Language Skills

Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form. Ability to speak Spanish, Creole is an asset but not a requirement. Ability to read and comprehend insurance policies and certificates, legal agreements, instructions, short correspondence and memos. Documentation of all patient / patrons / all working staff on the premises to include local law enforcement and other visiting guests on the property, accurate and confidential medical information in compliance with applicable HIPPA / Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations. A clear understanding of medical terminology. Ability to read, analyze and interpret business professional documentations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Have the ability to work as a team member with employees or with outside governmental body agencies.

Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations

Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operations of the equipment found in the facility. A Florida Driver’s License is required. Employee must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the Risk Management Department. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), AED, CPR and First Aid preferred. State Licenses are a plus. Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and / or up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and or move more than 100 pounds in the event of an emergency setting. May be required to climb steel, aluminum latter in a vertical setting of upwards of 40 feet. Continuous use of neighboring stairwells during any events, or as needed during sudden emergencies that may arise, efforts to arrive the scene as swiftly as possible. Strong time-management skills to maintain or exceed encouraged daily workloads, or required to stay after, later to accomplish the investigation task on hand during an incident.
