At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.

A vacancy has arisen for a Machine Shop Team Leader, working on our weekend shift and reporting to the Machine Shop Manufacturing Manager. In addition to programming and operating 5 axis Mazak mill / turn machines, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the weekend shift within the main Machine Shop, with the objective of manufacturing high quality, high complexity, machined components to challenging production schedule targets within a high pressure environment.

The role:

  • Pro-actively supporting the Machine Shop Manufacturing Manager in the efficient operation of the department throughout the weekend, taking responsibility for ensuring the weekend shift is managed to the required standard, providing leadership and clear direction to shift team members.

  • Programming, setting and operating 5 axis Mazak mill / turn machines to achieve the highest quality standards whilst meeting the required deadlines.

  • To communicate the manufacturing status clearly and effectively to the Manufacturing and Production Managers and across all other shifts.

  • Solve manufacturing problems and clearly escalate / communicate any concerns to the Manufacturing Manager.

  • Complying with all H&S, Company and departmental procedures, ensuring the safe use of all tooling and machinery.

What we are looking for:

Having served a recognised apprenticeship, achieving the relevant qualifications, the successful candidate will have a proven background of programming and operating 5 axis machine tools within a quality focussed and fast paced department. Ideally, you will have experience of managing teams within a similar manufacturing environment or identify this opportunity as a natural progression of your career.

You will be self motivating and comfortable leading a team whilst under pressure, achieving strict deadlines with minimum supervision. Good communication skills, flexibility in hours and a can-do approach are essential requirements.

You will have the ability to remain focused and objective when faced with adversity and to create a positive profile for yourself and the team. You will be resilient and professional with a belief in Continuous Improvement and possess a strong work ethic.
