At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.
As a Team, our values encourage us to look constantly at what we do, asking ourselves “how can we do better?” This question will be at the heart of your thirteen-month placement in the Aerodynamics Department, as you develop a broad appreciation of the systems in our wind tunnel and then apply your thoughtful and curious nature to propose and develop ways of improving the quality of our experimental results. Your ideas and skills will make a tangible contribution to the performance of our Team, both on and off the track.
We are focused on improving the full spectrum of our experimental methods: interpretation and presentation of data, mechanical design, electronics, software and optical systems, so we will tailor your projects to suit your interests and academic training.
Working as a valued member of a small group and mentored by knowledgeable specialists, you will see your skills develop and you will return to University with a year of experience that will help you grow in your career, connecting theory to practice.
Capable of working on your own and applying your reflective nature to understand a problem, your open and honest communication style means you also relish collaborating in a team setting. Your commitment and diligence have yielded good university results (e.g., aiming for a First or 2:1). With a broad overview of your subject, you enjoy discussing experimental techniques, using your interpretive skills, attention to detail and dependable judgment to help find solutions to problems.
It does not matter whether or not you already have an interest in motorsport: we are looking for engineers who are passionate about reaching their full potential and are excited about constantly learning. Whatever your background, we believe that you will find your placement with us a memorable and enriching experience.
Flexibility in hours and approach is required, along with a ‘can do’, ‘team-playing’ attitude and the ability to work to strict deadlines under minimal supervision.
We offer a competitive package including bonus, free on-site gym, subsidised restaurant facilities, generous discounts from our sponsors, Christmas & Summer parties and opportunities to work with our factory Race Support team.
We are highly focused on equal opportunities and pride ourselves on our strong, inclusive values and culture.
