At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.

The role:

Before an F1 car arrives at the track it has already completed thousands of virtual laps on the dyno. Simulating the extreme conditions of racing, every component driven at the limit. Before a racing driver fastens their belts they have already spent hours in motion. Immersed in a meticulous simulation of car and circuit. Every aspect of car and driver performance probed and analysed. Behind the scenes are incredible machines built by talented engineers. Could one of those be you?

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join the Performance Department at Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix.

The role:

As our Controls Systems Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to every aspect of real-time controls development for our SIL, HIL, dyno, and motion simulator systems

  • Collaborate within the organisation to identify new capability requirements for developing car performance

  • Help the operational teams by providing great tools, documentation, diagnostics, and hands-on support

  • Deliver robust, reliable systems using best practices in software development, automation, and testing

What we are looking for:

  • Has more than 2 years experience working with real-time controls on complex machines

  • Understands all aspects of the development cycle from concept to commissioning

  • Takes a data driven approach to diagnosing and resolving tough technical problems

  • Is passionate about, and skilled in, developing control systems using model based design

  • Enjoys programming and software development

We develop using MATLAB, Simulink, Visual Studio, and Azure DevOps. Our hardware includes vendors like McLaren, dSPACE, Beckhoff, AVL, and MTS. Experience in any of these would be beneficial. A prior interest in motorsport is not necessary.
