MLS is looking for a motivated and high performing individual to join the media team. MLS Media oversees all League content and rights, including match broadcasts, highlights, video production, and written content; as well as digital channels (site and app) for MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, MLS NEXT, and the recently announced Leagues Cup.

MLS has the youngest and most diverse fan base in American pro sports and is looking for a dedicated, passionate, and experienced professional to build and execute a global digital strategy for the Enterprise. Our digitally-native fans are ravenous consumers of digital media across league, club, and players channels. This exciting new role will be at the center of marketing the League to new and existing fans, highlighting burgeoning talent, and showcasing MLS’s atmosphere across a digital ecosystem.

The VP of Digital will be a leader in the development of the league’s digital strategy and will be responsible for socializing and executing this strategy for MLS, its Clubs, MLS NEXT Pro, and MLS NEXT. In this role, the VP of Digital will be responsible for developing products and content, and fan data strategies to deliver fan growth and new revenue for the enterprise.

This individual is responsible for designing and implementing a new digital plan that aligns with the overarching business goals and vision of the League and MLS’s Media department. This role requires vision, discipline, creativity, the ability to direct team members, excellent communication skills, great flexibility, as well as a strategic and innovative mindset.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Play a leading role on the MLS Media Leadership team, reporting directly to the EVP, Media

  • Drive fan growth and engagement through the implementation, execution, and management of a best-in-class digital strategy, encompassing content, fan data, product, and marketing

  • Leverage the broad suite of MLS Properties (MLSsoccer.com, FutbolMLS.com, the MLS App, LeaguesCup.com, MLSNEXTPro.com, and MLSNext.Soccer) to engage the widest possible group of fans

  • Lead digital executions for Major League Soccer’s tentpole events, MLS All-Star Game, MLS Cup Playoffs, MLS Cup, GA Cup, Campeones Cup and the Leagues Cup Final;

  • Partner closely with peers across the organization including Brand, Social, Product, and Revenue teams to maximize engagement and revenue for the Enterprise

Manager Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the MLS content, content experience, email, and digital club services groups at the League Office

  • Act as mentor, coach, and leader for team

  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:

    • Plan, monitor, and review performance;

    • Coach and counsel employees;

    • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce company policies

  • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, advanced degree

  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of prior work experience, with at least 8 years of experience leading high performing digital or related teams

  • In-depth knowledge and current experience with digital technology, user trends, content development and digital marketing

Required Skills

  • Excellent understanding of current trends in digital use, technology, and media

  • Understanding of fan segmentation, audience consumption behavior, and analytics

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing;

  • High level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance;

  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills;

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision;

  • Highly organized with excellent project coordination and project management skills

  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
