The individual selected for this opportunity will have a deep understanding of all types of editorial media, including a strong grasp of the digital and social media landscape. Experience and significant relationships with editorial decision makers in the areas of business and sports media are important to this role. This person who fills this role will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, high competence in executive communications and the ability to make decisions and executive plans in settings comparable to the fast-paced world of professional sports. The position is based in New York, NY and requires the individuals to be in the league’s Manhattan office a minimum of three days each week.
Leads all aspects of communications strategy for the MLS’ partnership with Apple and MLS Season Pass, the league’s new streaming service on the Apple TV app.
Leads feature idea development, message creation and media placements to inspire consumers to subscribe to MLS Season Pass and position MLS as a leader in the industry.
Provides a forward-looking approach to MLS communications strategies with strong ability to develop and pitch stories.
Crafts strategic communications plans and materials including press releases, messaging, advisories, fact sheets and executive briefing documents.
Collaborates with internal departments, MLS clubs and external partners to drive storytelling to achieve desired program outcomes.
Manages communications for select executives through interviews, high-impact media opportunities, and events; prepare executives to ensure consistent messaging.
Prepares MLS content personnel, including on-air-talent, for external speaking engagements, including media interviews, panels and conferences.
Collaborates with MLS’ senior leadership, including the EVP of Media and EVP of Communications and MLS Season Pass producers on a variety of communications matters.
Works in partnership with internal content teams (digital / social / marketing / creative) to help proactively tell our story.
Works closely with MLS clubs on all aspects of the league’s partnership with Apple.
Works closely with MLS linear media rights partners to manage communications for broadcasting announcements, ratings information and news.
Leads communications strategy around MLS marketing campaigns.
Serves as a key communications stakeholder for non-sports activities around MLS marquee events such as All-Star Week and MLS Cup.
Consults human resources group on internal communications matters including providing guidance on issues and opportunities to strengthen internal and employee communication efforts/plans.
Identifies and drive a strategic internal messaging platform and strong employee communication plan to improve employee engagement
Successfully manages complex, fast paced and unexpected communications opportunities, including select crisis situations.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
8 - 10 years of proven experience relevant to supporting corporate or external communications, media partnerships or internal communications
Ability to develop, lead and execute highly effective communications, public relations, and partner/stakeholder relations strategies in a complex environment.
Superior management and communication capabilities; an excellent command of spoken and written English; a keen aesthetic sense and attention to detail; and extensive understanding and experience of technical aspects of contemporary communications.
Positive, engaging ways of working with the ability to influence necessary stakeholders.
Ability to clearly understand and empathize with multiple points of view, build strong relationships of trust and respect with a wide variety of stakeholders, effectively use influencing skills to gain buy-in and collaboration.

Passion for the sport of soccer and Major League Soccer.
Knowledge of a second language is beneficial.
Starting Base Salary: $165,000 - $180,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
