The Manager, International Communications is a fully bilingual media relations professional (English & Spanish), who is responsible for publicizing Soccer United Marketing (SUM) properties and Major League Soccer (MLS) across domestic and international media, as well creating and driving media operations for major international soccer events.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
Proactively pitches and generates media coverage of SUM properties (Concacaf Gold Cup, Nations League Finals, Campeones Cup, Leagues Cup, MexTour), as well as MLS, among domestic and international media
Leads and drives publicity, media operations and accreditation for SUM events, in many situations working alongside and collaborating closely with different partners
Leads and produces Spanish-language content and information
Fields media requests and inquiries from U.S. and international outlets, as well as internal requests
Additional Responsibilities
Participates in Communications Department meetings and events
Liaison with internal partners (Partnership Marketing, SUM International, Marketing, Broadcasting, Digital, etc.) and with that of the event partners
Supports all MLS and SUM special events, as well as all strategies and objectives of the department
Additional responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
5+ years of demonstrated ability in the PR industry
Required Skills
Fully bilingual (English and Spanish – reading, writing, and speaking)
Knowledge of social media to affect PR strategy
Strong organizational and communications skills
High-level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
Ability to work in a fast-paced media environment and make quick decisions using sound judgment
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
Proven decision making and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Positive attitude who works well within a team
Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays
Desired Skills
Knowledge of the sport of soccer and passion for MLS
Previous knowledge and experience in sports communications
Total Rewards
Starting Base Salary: $70,000 – $80,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
