MLB’s Strategy & Development (S&D) organization is a centralized resource within Baseball’s Office of the Commissioner. The S&D organization works cross-functionally across MLB to support the development and execution of our strategies for growing baseball globally.

As part of our charter, S&D is a service organization that oversees 5 key areas:

  • Strategy: Align Industry strategic direction and provide internal consulting services to League Verticals and Functions, Clubs, Office of the Commissioner

  • Club Biz Ops & Strategy: Support development of club strategies, best practices, x-functional dialogue

  • Analytics: Centralized home for data-driven-insights to advise and support Strategy, Clubs, League Verticals and Functions

  • Operations: Implement and stand-up new initiatives

  • Corporate Development: Identify and activate inorganic growth opportunities for MLB that support our strategy and provide economic return

MLB Analytics team is looking for a Technical Project Manager who can assist our seasoned team of dedicated analytics professionals in delivering business-critical analytical solutions that impact the league. The Analytics team within the Strategy & Development (S&D) department is responsible for partnering with multiple areas of the organization to not only develop impactful insight for a particular vertical through the utilization of various data resources but provide sage direction on what is possible for the league’s success looking across all departments.

As the Technical Project Manager in our NYC office, your primary task will be to assist the team in organizing, prioritizing, and delivering multiple cross functional projects. You are highly motivated to work on varied projects that touch all parts of the league, sitting centrally to all that comes in and goes out of the Analytics team. You must be interested in getting your hands dirty and learning numerous parts of what we do for the organization. We all contribute, and we all play multiple positions (think Shohei Ohtani in the 2021 All-Star game), whether it is for two people or a project that is touched by all aspects of an Organization - the aim of this game is to deliver. You are process and detail oriented while not afraid of changes if the time comes. You are comfortable talking with all parts of the organization and coordinating between people who did not even know they were required to be part of the process. The projects we deliver assist the league's leaders (pun intended)… help us get it done together.

REQUIRED SKILLS & BACKGROUND

  • 3-4 years of progressively complex related experience.

  • Bachelor's degree with a technical discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (documentation is a tool you wield proudly); ability to communicate clearly and effectively with analysts, developers, business owners, and executive team members.

  • A SCRUM/Agile Master who understands cloud platforms and application development.

  • Strong track record of developing sound project plans to deliver on business objectives.

  • Independently driven with a high sense of ownership, urgency, and experience in resolving impediments as a valued leader/team representative.

  • Passionate, driven, and humble in your approach.

  • Business customer centric with an eye toward working collaboratively across the organization; High IQ low Ego.

  • Experience managing B2B projects, including data collection through to visualization.

  • Knowledge of the project delivery and acceptance processes within a technology organization.

  • Comfortable with managing stakeholders (internal + external), getting buy-in from leadership, and leading the development team's tasks.

  • Ability to juggle and prioritize competing demands on your time.

  • Direct hands-on experience managing Kanban, JIRA, and Project Plans; Facilitating spring planning, daily stand-up meetings, and monitoring JIRA dashboards; high proficiency in structuring projects in JIRA and Confluence.

PREFERRED SKILLS & BACKGROUND

  • A passion for data and an understanding/willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies under minimum guidance.

  • Experience managing budgets and vendor delivery (vendor's can be remote).

  • Baseball knowledge is a plus.

  • Agile Scrum Master certification.

  • End-to-end SDLC experience is a plus.
