Support Major League Baseball’s Social Responsibility & Community Affairs mission and charitable initiatives; coordinate day-to-day activities of the department and of the MLB Charities foundation.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the head of community affairs coordinate the day-to-day operations of the department including, but not limited to:

    • Managing community affairs inbox and external requests

    • Program research, development and implementation

    • Manage requests for in-kind donations

    • Execute departmental communications (internal and external)

  • Coordinate the monthly community Club calls including scheduling, organizing agenda, recording and providing minutes to participants

  • Coordinate the planning, organizing, and implementation of year –round events, (including jewel events), community programs and internal volunteer events

  • Assist team on department budget including collecting and tracking invoices

  • Interface with public relations department and MLB.com to coordinate event coverage and provide support for community web page and written materials

  • Oversee community calendar and communication materials for the Clubs

  • Establish and maintain communication with assigned charitable partners and serve as primary day-to-day MLB contact

  • Coordinate department conference calls, and seminars and organize materials

  • Responsible for all ticketing and hospitality requirements and requests for both regular season and jewel events

  • Work with Special Events and other departments on administrative, facility and equipment orders, transportation, hospitality, consumer products and merchandise

  • Assist with scheduling and logistics of employee volunteer events and work with HR point of contact to highlight employee engagement opportunities

  • Attend meetings and conferences (as assigned) to gather industry insight and best practices

  • Prepare reports, presentation decks, and maintain program outlines

  • Maintain relationships with program partners, external agencies and organizations

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Perform research to identify/corroborate legitimacy of community programs/partners

  • Represent department at internal and external meetings when appropriate

  • Attend community/charity dinners and functions (potentially outside normal business hours)

  • Special projects as assigned

  • Performs related duties as required

  • Perform administrative and other duties as required or assigned that support the overall objective of the position

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five years related experience in cause-marketing, communications, business and previous experience in planning and managing community-based or social impact programs

  • Nonprofit operations and program management experience a plus

  • Sports organization experience a plus

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of MLB staff and business units, Club contacts, and charitable partners

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively on a small team while being also being independent in accomplishing goals and daily tasks

  • Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and organizational skills

  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and stellar ability to create and organize presentation decks

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Able to work with individuals of all ages and capacities, including those with developmental and physical disabilities

  • Some physical work involved

  • Ability to multi-task competing priorities while maintaining flexibility and managing deadlines

  • Ability to travel and work weekends and extended hours (e.g., All-Star Week, World Series and other times when needed)
