MLB’s Strategy & Development (S&D) organization is a centralized resource within Baseball’s Office of the Commissioner. The S&D organization works cross-functionally across MLB to support development and execution of our strategies for growing baseball globally.

As part of our charter, S&D is a service organization that oversees 5 key areas:

  • Strategy & Insights: Align Industry strategic direction and provide internal consulting services to League Verticals and Functions, Clubs, Office of the Commissioner
  • Club Business Operations & Strategy: Support development of Club strategies and accelerate adoption of best practices
  • Corporate Development: Identify and activate inorganic growth opportunities for MLB that support our strategy and provide economic return
  • Analytics: Leverage role as centralized home for data-driven-insights to advise and support Strategy, Clubs, League Verticals and Functions

Project Management & Operations (PMO): Ensure implementation and success for key strategic initiatives

MLB is hiring a Senior Analyst, Consumer Analytics to be a key contributor in support of some of the top initiatives being undertaken across the industry. This position will report directly to the Senior Manager, Consumer Analytics within the S&D organization, and will focus on leveraging data and analytics to help drive business impact and advise various verticals throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate will be a thought-leader on trends and dynamics impacting the Sports, Media, and Entertainment landscape, and will bring a strong, structured strategy toolkit and experience to a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in analytical projects aiming to identify engagement trends and determine causation.
  • Work with colleagues to develop and facilitate best practices for data and analytics across the League.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and ad hoc analyses that provide insights into major projects, initiatives, and trends around the League.
  • Perform ad hoc and advanced analyses on fan behaviors while feeding data to business owners to assist in guiding strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in the reporting and creation of media strategies on Owned and Operated platforms for media partners such as ESPN+ and YouTube TV.
  • Present thoughtful, cohesive evidence to support initiative and campaign proposals to various MLB stakeholders.
  • Build presentations regarding project performance for dissemination internally.
  • Measure and recommend improvements on digital products such as MLB.TV, MLB & Club websites, applications such as the MLB App and Ballpark, and video games like Home Run Derby VR.
  • Retrieve data and provide insight into MLB.com portal traffic, industry trends, and the League’s third-party presences.
  • Create and distribute traffic and usage reports to assist internal business owners, upper management, and all 30 MLB Clubs and MLB partners in project creation and prioritization.
  • Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.

Required Skills:

  • College Graduate. B.A./B.S. degree with a relevant academic major (mathematics, statistics, computer science) is strongly preferred, though candidates with non-traditional schooling backgrounds and strong relevant experience will be considered.
  • Highly professional manner with excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong proficiency in quantitative data collection and data analysis using SQL is required.
  • Experience with BI platforms such as Looker, Tableau, or other data visualization software is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Analytics is preferred.
  • Experience with data science and statistical concepts such as regression modeling in R or Python is preferred.
  • 2-4 years related experience is preferred.
  • Ideal candidate will have a low-ego, team-oriented mindset and desire to deliver effective results.
  • Previous experience working within the sports industry is a plus.
