The Coordinator, Communications has responsibilities related to writing press releases, producing media guides, providing press box and media relations support at MLB events, generating social media content, working closely with Club Public Relations Departments, and assisting the Communications Department execute a wide variety of tasks and research-oriented projects. Our goal is to make the MLB Communications Department a trusted resource for all baseball constituencies and to handle incoming requests for Clubs, fellow MLB Departments and media members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Producing and editing offseason media guides – 30%
Researching and responding to ad hoc inquiries from Clubs, fellow MLB Departments and media members – 20%
Assisting with MLB’s awards program – 10%
Writing press releases, including being the point person regarding weekly and monthly awards and the voting – 10%
On-site support at various MLB events – 10%
Assisting with MLB signage and ballpark postings program each winter/spring – 10%
Assisting with Departmental goals and long-term initiatives – 10%
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
·We’re looking for a motivated and creative candidate who is passionate about the game, its players, its rules, its place in our culture, its history, its statistics and how it’s covered by the media and on social media. The candidate must possess strong writing and editing skills and should have a strong command of current and former players, with superb attention to detail. The ideal candidate will track what issues are in the news, will know why they are important to Baseball and will help us identify storylines and trends that are good for the game. The candidate should be ready to be responsive to Clubs and respectful of the unique nature of the baseball schedule. The candidate should enjoy working with the media and understand the day-to-day needs and expectations of reporters.
College degree.
Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Baseball experience is a plus, and sports experience is appreciated as well.
Public Relations/Communications experience is a plus.
Familiarity with journalism is preferred.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented and constantly evolving environment.
Experience with Adobe suite of products (e.g., InDesign), PowerPoint and other publishing programs is preferred.
Familiarity with important social media platforms and how the game is covered is preferred.
Ability to work well under deadlines and prioritize based on significance of the project and its timeline.
Willingness to pitch in on various projects as needed.
Ability to travel for various industry events is expected.
Per the NYC pay transparency law, the hiring range for this position is $56,000 to $65,000.
