As Merchandise Manager, you will be responsible for leading the merchandising function for the LA Clippers, and have an immediate impact on growing the retail business across all channels. You will be accountable for executing the overall retail strategy for the organization while improving profits in both the in-venue and ecommerce space.

In this role, you will collaborate across the organization to deliver merchandising initiatives and programs that drive revenue, grow fandom and build brand affinity in our community and around the globe. You will also be responsible for assortment and presentation, product development, buying, fulfillment, retail marketing, customer service and vendor management. Moreover, you will also be responsible for exploring new retail channels and avenues to drive growth.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes annual retail strategy with e-commerce and in-arena partners.

  • Identify new collaborations, trends, innovations, and concepts that can be incorporated into product offerings and retail strategy.

  • Manage the OTB process with retail partners in buying, selection, and procurement of merchandise

  • Conceptualize, plan and lead execution of seasonal and annual programs in partnership with the NBA.

  • Serve as the team’s main point of contact with the NBA licensing organization, managing relationships with league licensees and staying on top of new initiatives and annual programs.

  • Serve as main liaison with the NBA brand assurance team. Proactively manage brand integrity as it pertains to logo usage, brand identity, and quality across all merchandise programs.

  • Oversee and internally collaborate across the organization on all promotional orders with merchandise

  • Partner with marketing team on retail marketing initiatives in-arena and for our fan shop.

  • Work with key internal and external partners to manage orders, invoices and forecasting with our partners and licensees

  • Work with partners within the organization to build retail extensions for key marketing and fan activations

  • Facilitate marketing promotions planning and execution of the LA Clippers fan shop (email, in-app, social)

  • Be a flexible and reliable teammate, both within the retail department and within the company as a whole

Characteristics / Qualifications

  • Undergraduate/graduate business/marketing or merchandising degree

  • 8+ years in merchandising and/or licensing, with an understanding of product lines, revenue channels and associated financials (preference for Sports merchandising or licensing)

  • Experience in vertical retail and product development is a plus

  • Solid strategic and execution skills with a track record of delivering strong growth results

  • Excellent communicator, ability to build relationships with vendors and recognizing the impact of this role across all business functions

  • Have an understanding of fulfillment and supply chain operations

  • Proven knowledge of financials with an analytical approach

  • Be actively aware of retail trends in sports and the NBA. Possess a strong pulse of Los Angeles culture and trends

  • Exceptional project & time management skills

  • Strong leadership skills, exceptional collaboration skills and high ability to influence

  • Strong and effective communication skills including verbal, written and presentation

  • Ability to build & leverage informal network

  • Ability to anticipate issues and resolve them based on sound business judgment
