The Houston Astros is looking to recruit a high-level strength and conditioning candidate for their Dominican Republic academy S&C Apprenticeship. We seek a highly motivated candidate with developing coaching skills who demonstrates they can be adaptable and find solutions to daily performance problems. The candidate should have some experience working with varied levels of athletes and demonstrate the ability to perform well under pressure. They should have practical experience or knowledge of utilizing sports science information to inform decision making processes in strength and conditioning practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Utilize the organization’s principles of physical development to maximize baseball performance of our players, using information as required to inform programming decisions

  • In season programming and coaching of acceleration and speed, strength/power, and metabolic conditioning development under direct supervision

  • Make daily decisions on suitable programming needs of players that maximizes continued physical development

  • Perform daily and weekly collection of sports science related data that is embedded within the organization’s physical development plans

  • Work with baseball coaches to integrate training and manage training schedules daily/weekly as appropriate

  • Teach proper execution, techniques, and safety for all lifts and movement drills

  • Manage multiple same-day training schedules of players that have varying needs and modifications, to ensure training consistency

  • Collaborate with athletic trainers using daily meetings to maximize player preparation and apply modifications as required to maximize availability for baseball activities

  • Goal set appropriately and work alongside player development to find solutions to help players meet their performance goals

  • Always adheres to high level of professionalism

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned


  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Strength and Conditioning coach

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science or related field required

  • Ability and ambition to obtain the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

  • certification through the NSCA within 18 months

  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certified


  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, jump, run, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate with others

  • The vision requirement includes the ability to review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format

  • The employee must be able to transfer and move items for departmental needs

  • The employee must be able to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed considering the strong focus on external communications and relationships


  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science or related field

  • Fluency in Spanish

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the NSCA

  • Experience coaching in a NCAA or professional team environment

  • Experience with objective diagnostic testing (i.e. force plates)

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Full vaccination against the COVID-19 virus

This person is expected to be located in the Dominican Republic. This position may require the ability to lift and carry up to 100lbs, the ability to stand for extended periods of time, as well as bending, reaching, and throwing. Visual acuity must be sufficient to facilitate instruction. This position will function both indoors and outdoors.
