JOB SUMMARY:
This position serves as a member of Senior Staff and is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership in establishing and achieving short- and long-range business goals/objectives at the direction of and in close conjunction/collaboration with the President and Senior Staff. This position directs and oversees the planning, organizing, direction, and control of the financial functions of the organization while overseeing and providing for the collection, organization, analysis, and distribution of financial and administrative management reports. This position will regularly consult with internal leaders to enhance fiscal understanding and responsibility of the organization using sound business judgement to make recommendations on financial and operational matters. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, working within NFL requirements, and working closely with the treasurer and the Executive Committee.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works closely with the President and Senior Staff to establish financial objectives. Works with the Senior Staff, Leadership Team, and finance and accounting staff to develop and implement annual plans and budgets to meet short and long-term financial and operational goals. Responsible for periodic reporting and analysis of operating results. Monitors progress on goals and suggests adjustments as needed to meet goals.
Ensures the quality, accuracy, thoroughness of general accounting and administrative functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory controls, cost accounting, payroll, daily cash control and deposits, bank reconciliation, purchasing, cash management and NFL and government audits.
Prepares regular financial reports including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and presents to the President and others as directed. Collects data, analyzes information, prepares reports, and makes recommendations on special projects as requested by the President and/or Senior Staff. Provides the President, Senior Staff, and Leadership Team with input and information on operational efficiency and financial performance. Assists with approved requests for financial information.
Safeguards the financial resources of the organization through controlling costs, maintaining accountability for cost containment through the budget process, establishing and monitoring programs for internal controls and general security. Plans for and effectively manages cash flow and assists in determination of when and where to invest cash to maximize financial return.
Manages and directs the finance and accounting team including development of performance standards, on-going employee performance appraisals, delegation and regular review of work performed by employees for accuracy and thoroughness.
Serves as the organization’s liaison with examiners and auditors, and manages all auditors and examiners’ reviews of financial accounts. Works with NFL and business partners on organization’s financial issues.
Assists in maintaining good working relationships with financial institutions for line of credit purposes and to finance large capital acquisitions. Works to maximize utilization of resources.
Keeps current with development in accounting and corporate tax issues in order to identify potential problems or opportunities. Discusses findings/questions with the President and/or CPA firm. Assists with strategic planning solutions to meet new practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Four-year degree required, MBA or equivalent preferred.
Minimum 10 years of executive level financial leadership experience.
Experience in accounting/finance, preferably in professional sports.
Ability to strategically lead/supervise all finance areas with strategic business judgment (day-to-day and long range).
Quality, accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness required, adherence to GAAP.
Ability to communicate effectively and develop good working relationships with attention to responsiveness and soundness in business decisions.
Integrity, honesty and ability to gain trust, cooperation, and respect of President, Executive Committee, Senior Staff, Leadership Team and finance and accounting team is vital.
