The Club are recruiting for a PDP Psychologist to lead the delivery of the PDP psychology programme alongside the Academy’s broader applied psychological programmes. You will support the psychological development, performance, and mental health of individual players throughout the pathway.
Your role will include but not be limited to:
Lead the implementation of the PDP phase applied psychology programme and curriculum, and drive the development of this as agreed with the Head of Psychology and MDT colleagues.
Support the delivery of the broader Academy Psychology Programme with other applied psychology colleagues e.g. YDP performance psychologist
Provide transition support between the YDP and PDP phases through close working relationships with key YDP staff e.g. YDP performance psychologist
Work with PDP multi-disciplinary staff to identify the age specific psychological needs of individuals and teams within the development pathway and professional game.
Integrate psychological perspective and understanding within different areas of multi-disciplinary working
Support the utilisation of psychological player profiling to inform individual and systemic psychological interventions i.e. individual learning plans.
Support PDP players through target setting and ILP development, as part of the multi-disciplinary team, 6-weekly player reviews.
Deliver performance support in 1-to1 and group sessions across the PDP, whilst also contributing to delivery within the coaching, performance analysis and sport science departments.
Support the identification of ‘priority players’ as part of a broader MDT, contributing to a plan as to how best meet key psychological needs, including performing under pressure, confidence, self-care, and routines.
Work closely with the Player Care Department and Clinical Psychologist to educate and support players to achieve good mental health.
Co-Deliverer of Sports Science and Medicine culture project with Head of Performance.
Contributor to Academy Life Plan sessions as agreed with Academy Player Care Manager and SEP Apprenticeship sessions as agreed with Academy Education Manager.
Leading on PDP Team Formulations and attendance at PDP Wellbeing Forum.
As a minimum you will hold a relevant qualification for practitioner psychologist status i.e. BPS stage 2 or SEPAR and MUST have Active Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
Essential experience required for this role:
Experience of working in an high performance environment (min. 2 years)
Evidence of working as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team within a performance environment
Experience of using applied psychological theory to understand individual and systemic needs
Experience of designing and delivering individual and systemic psychological interventions based on an identified formulation
Experience of utilising psychometric methods of psychological assessment (e.g. Spotlight) as part of assessment
Experience of conducting comprehensive assessment of high potential or priority player psychological needs/strengths
Understanding of at least one recognised psychological theory and/or model that underpins applied practice
Awareness of emotional and mental health needs through broader reading or qualifications (e.g. Mental Health First Aid)
Understanding of the role of supervision as part of applied practice and self-care
Exceptional communication skills and a highly organised approach are also essential requirements for this role
