The Youth Basketball Manager will report to the Mavs Academy Senior Director and work directly with the Youth Basketball Department (Mavs Academy).

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop annual schedule for all elite programs.

  • Work with the Senior Director to create a countdown of action items and key tasks for all elite programs including marketing and promotional strategies, supplies needed and key contacts to reach out to.

  • Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure budget goals are met.

  • Develop, update, and maintain “Event Book” detailing tasks, timelines, responsibilities, contacts and historical record for each program.

  • Work closely with all departments such as Marketing, Sponsorship, Design, Accounting, and Operation.

  • Provide assistance to the Mavs Academy staff for day-to-day projects and programming.

  • Prepare and manage initiatives and strategies for various youth programs throughout the organization, including tournaments, combines, camps, clinics, leagues, coaches' council and leadership council.

  • Make sure all website information is current and up to date

  • Seek new opportunities with recreational centers and high schools around the metroplex.

  • Assist with a wide variety of community basketball projects that drive brand awareness, ticket sales, and community engagement.

  • Evaluate, develop, and present post recap reports and metrics for Mavs Academy events.

  • Manage registration reports, waivers, promotional giveaways, retail, and jersey delivery for all Mavs Academy elite programs.

  • Assist and manage/supervise as needed for various Mavs Academy events.

  • Assist in preparing all youth and high school tournaments communication, team registration, scheduling, marketing, logistics and on-site liaison with tournament director.

  • Build lasting relationships with coaches, athletic directors, parents, and athletes to maximize business opportunities.

  • Assist in all Jr NBA programs such as clinics, skills challenge, and camps.

  • Assist where needed with the Mavs Academy Coaches Association which will include the Mavs Academy Coaches Council, Coaches Networks, Coaches Clinics and Game Night Chalk Talks.

  • Recruit and retain seasonal staff to help with elite programs.

  • Provide an atmosphere for developing great morale, positive reinforcement, and well-being among all youth programs.

  • Develop and maintain a database of elite youth basketball players that participate in our programs including contact information, state and national rank, college signings and professional career.

  • Responsible for signage on site and assists in set up of same.

  • Manage the purchase of trophies, awards, food, jerseys, and all needed supplies.

  • Secure referees for tournaments, combines and all events requiring referees.

  • Work with Youth Basketball Team to ensure that courts are set up and safe.

  • Visit other camps, clinics, leagues, and tournaments locally to gather best practices and incorporate back into Mavs youth programs.

  • Other duties as assigned


The Youth Basketball Manager must have the ability to learn quickly and thrive within the Dallas Mavericks Community and Youth Basketball Department. Excellent organizational and verbal skills are a must, and the ability to multitask and work long irregular hours is also required.

  • College degree from an accredited university.

  • Experience with event planning.

  • Strong time, organizational and resource management skills.

  • Meets critical deadlines under flexible circumstances

  • Knowledge of basketball with previous experience with top level youth players

  • Computer Skills - Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to relate to people of a variety of ages

  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision

  • Ability to problem-solve working both independently and in group environments

  • Playing and/or coaching experience, college level preferred

  • Results driven - Self-motivated with desire to promote and market

  • Innovative thinker with a desire to grow current programs and develop new ones

  • Willingness to work a non-traditional schedule
