The Dallas Mavericks are in search of a Senior Designer to join their in-house Creative Studio on the Marketing team. The designer, a seasoned veteran, has a knack for converting strategic insight and concepts into beautiful creations. With advanced visual storytelling techniques in hand, they build and present effective design solutions for all departments. A keen observer of the sports landscape, they set a professional standard for the team to follow and elevate collective creative output by leading group projects, executing at the highest level and sharing practical design skills. Tasked with a wide array of advertising, branding, and game presentation projects, the designer is well-versed in communicating their vision in a group setting and maintains a collaborative spirit across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Designer reports to the Creative Director the Marketing team.

  • Design a variety of print and digital graphic communications

  • Concept, plan and create original creative toolkits for marketing campaigns

  • Retouch and color correct photography with a signature sports appeal

  • Own and lead creative initiatives from start to finish

  • Match strategic goals of the company to stellar creative concepts

  • Seeks to understand and work with our digital and game presentation teams

  • Present ideas and work to a variety of departments and teams

  • Create various signage, logo design, and unique giveaway items

  • Be an adviser for teammates on as needed basis

  • Maintain quality communication with the team

  • Build design solutions that promote fan engagement, game attendance and viewership

  • Offer constructive feedback in team meetings

  • Communicate with project owners to understand objectives

  • Devise uniquely crafted print pieces for special promotions

  • Develop, update, and manage existing digital files and marketing materials

  • Ensure creative execution of the highest quality, delivering projects that meet or exceed expectations and standards

  • Examine all materials for brand consistency

  • Dialogue with printers to execute production of print materials

  • Instrumental in maintaining brand standards throughout the marketing department

  • Lend a unique voice to the Creative Studio

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. B.A. or B.F.A. in Visual Communications or related field

  • 8+ years of graphic design experience with a stunning portfolio

  • Proficient command and efficient use of Adobe CC InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator software

  • An acute sense for high impact sports design; previous experience creating for sports teams is preferable

  • Advanced photo and graphic retouching abilities

  • Experience in web design and/or strategy a plus

  • A temperament for rapid ideation, conversational brainstorming and editing

  • Strong presentation and communication skills

  • Experience translating creative strategy into direction, design, and presentation

  • Proven knowledge and experience in logo design, copy and photo/advertisement layout, cutouts, and photo selection

  • An established sense of layout hierarchy, spacing and color strategy

  • Sophisticated understanding and restraint regarding typographical hierarchies and font selection

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to communicate ideas from concept to execution

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a deliberate pace and communicate priorities

  • Proofread copy and check accuracy of owned projects

  • Experience with application of special printing techniques

  • Ability to handle criticism and feedback with professionalism

  • Able to self-manage, working quickly and accurately

  • Must work proactively and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Self-motivated with excellent focus on the task at hand

  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines

  • File management and organizational skills

  • Ability to understand printer specifications

  • Time management and ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must
