Columbus Crew is the first club in Major League Soccer. The Crew is operated by The Edwards Family and Haslam Sports Group. The Black & Gold are the 2021 Campeones Cup winners. The Club has won two MLS Cup championships in 2008 and 2020, one Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2002, as well as MLS Supporters’ Shield titles in 2004, 2008 and 2009. The 2022 campaign is the Crew’s 27th season in MLS as well as the Club’s first full season at Field. The 2022 season will also see the launch of Crew 2, a member of MLS NEXT. The club will play at Historic Crew Stadium, MLS’s first soccer specific stadium.


We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Digital Strategy and Innovation to grow our fanbase, drive revenue, and push the Columbus Crew brand forward. They will be responsible for auditing owned digital channels, and building and executing a comprehensive digital strategy including social media, web and app platforms for the Crew, Crew 2, Field, and Historic Crew Stadium. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Brand Strategy and Innovation and will oversee the social media and digital teams. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Audit digital channels including social media, web and app platforms across team properties

  • Develop digital reporting/ tracking structure and interpret regular reports into actionable insights

  • Build thoughtful and innovative owned digital marketing strategy including social media, website and app

  • Develop competitive best practices and processes in digital marketing and create benchmarks

  • Identify opportunities to use digital technologies to enhance the overall marketing mix

  • Collaborate with team members on a data-capture strategy and execution

  • Manage app and website CMS system in close partnership with MLS

  • Work cross-functionally with Corporate Partnerships to execute on digital asset fulfillment

  • Build digital strategy to optimize ticket sales and other revenue streams

  • Collaborate with team members on content strategy and execution

  • Oversee Digital Brand Manager and Social Media Coordinator

  • Create web pages, forms, and other digital assets to support marketing campaigns

  • Ensure brand consistency across owned digital channels

  • Champions a segmented digital fan experience and advises on messaging architecture

  • Other duties as assigned

Required skills, experience & abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Marketing or related fields

  • 7+ years of experience in sports, media, technology or related field(s)

  • 3-5 years of management experience

  • Demonstrates track record of driving revenue and an elevated fan experience through digital and social channels

  • Digital Savvy with knowledge and comfort of the evolving landscape

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude with keen eye for attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work home matches and other select events

  • Able to some additional evenings, weekends and events
