The Cavaliers legal department provides advice and counsel with respect to all business operations of the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA), Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland Monsters (AHL), Cleveland Charge (NBAGL) and Cavs Legion GC (NBA2K). Our lawyers negotiate and advise on the structuring of business arrangements with counterparties in a variety of areas, including television, digital media, sponsorship, gaming, and events.
We are looking for a meticulous, detail-oriented Legal Coordinator to support the legal department on a broad range of general commercial matters and business operations. A proactive and collaborative approach, attention to detail, and excellent analytical skills are essential.
This position will report to the Executive Vice President and General Counsel, and will work closely with the Associate General Counsel.
Responsibilities:
Assist in management of contracts, including the general organization of, tracking of signatures, and calendaring applicable dates
Operational and administrative support of the legal team including managing the forms database, organizing contract files, sending DocuSign, and following-up with all key stakeholders regarding status of projects and agreements to ensure timely and accurate execution
Research, manage, and track contractual obligations, including by evaluating exclusivity requirements, tracking end dates and extension/termination options, and advising on assignment obligations
Responding to inquiries on the status of agreements and negotiations, and development of internal processes and procedures
Prepare reference charts, databases, and status reports
Manage deliverables in connection with all executed agreements, including with respect to financial and insurance-related obligations
Support General Counsel with risk management and insurance matters
Manage, organize, and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing systems
Prepare initial drafts of form corporate documents (such as confidentiality agreements, routine service agreements, and other agreements as appropriate) for review by in-house legal counsel
Coordinate with various personnel throughout Cavaliers organization to help facilitate contracts and business initiatives and liaise with other Departments (e.g., Finance, Corporate Partnerships, People and Culture, Venue Operations, Marketing, etc.) to ensure compliance with company and NBA league policies
Work on sweepstakes, contests and giveaways, including by preparing rules for review by in-house counsel
Work closely with in-house counsel to provide periodic updates for all contract templates and other legal forms to support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Experience with contract management software, DocuSign is preferred
Superior time management, research, and organization skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact with all levels of the organization
Excellent communication skills (oral and written), relationship-building abilities, and attention to detail
An openness to learning, positive attitude, and self-starter mentality with demonstrable follow-through
Outstanding prioritization including the ability to execute multiple, high-priority projects independently and on short timeframes
