The PR and Media Relations Coordinator for the 2021 WNBA champion Chicago Sky is a part-time, paid position, up to 30 hours. Reporting directly to the Director of Public Relations, the PR and Media Relations Coordinator will assist with the Chicago Sky's overall publicity, media relations and basketball communications efforts.
The coordinator must be able to attend all Chicago Sky home games for the upcoming 2023 season, be available to work road games remotely, attend practices and offsite community events as needed.
This position interacts with players, coaches, media members and broadcast staff on a daily basis and plays an integral role for gamedays, assisting with league-mandated media availabilities, distributing proper media information, creating game notes, assisting in creation of stats packs, travel packets, and postgame notes and quotes, and updating of team bios and other necessary content.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Sports Management or related fields
1-3 years' experience (internships are applicable) within communications, PR, or media relations
Experience with college sports information or media relations department a plus
Strong computer skills including InDesign, Photoshop, Excel
Strong project leadership skills
Strong basketball and WNBA knowledge
Comfortable working with talent and senior level executives
Experience writing press releases and other PR-related writing tasks
High level of energy, commitment, passion, creativity, and innovation
Excellent time management, organizational and multitasking skills
Quick learner, ability to operate in high-stress, fast-paced environments and situations
Self-starter who feels confident managing themselves at times and takes initiative completing all tasks necessary prior to each game
Ability to handle multiple deadlines and priorities
Exceptional writing, editing and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of sports communications and basketball statistics
Ability to maintain confidential information
Passionate about working in public relations, basketball communications, or media relations within the professional sports industry
Reliable transportation; use of personal vehicle to and from practice facility, arena, offices
Ability to work weekends, nights and holidays
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the public relations department with daily tasks
Assist in overseeing 2023 intern program
Oversee and update game notes for all road and home games
Perform various game-night duties including staffing of media check-in, pre-game interviews, game updates
Update daily news clippings from various publications for ownership and management
Distribute media information to necessary broadcasters and local/national media
Staff and help organize media events such as press conferences and media availabilities
Edit and update media materials such as player bios, game-day media information, press releases, media advisories and all content that will be distributed to and the public as needed
Assist in set up for game night media areas (credentialing, media seating, media conference, and media dining)
Assist in all aspects of media relations events, including planning, interviews, setting up and contributing to all aspects of virtual and in-person press conferences
Attend practices, shootarounds, player appearances, community outreach events and other organizational events as needed
Serve as an information resource for visiting media, coaching staff, broadcasters, and other pertinent basketball operations staff
Other related duties as assigned
