The Basketball Software Developer / Data Engineer will assist the basketball operations department in developing tools to manage, clean, and present data to enhance insights and decision-making processes within basketball operations. This position will be a part of the Basketball Analytics Department.
In this role you will:
Design, develop, and document software tools to communicate insights to members of the organization including coaching, performance, front office, and scouting
Maintain and audit full-stack projects from data ingestion pipelines (ELT), front-end interfaces, and database management
This position will work with the team to oversee all batch and streaming data ingestion processes
Work directly with other members of the basketball operations department to identify areas for increased efficiency with software automation
Other duties as designated by manager
Willingness and ability to provide proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination required
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities
To perform the job successfully, you will have or demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
Full-stack software development or data engineering experience in an industry, research, or sports setting
Proficient with a modern scripting language (ideally, Python)
Knowledge of database design, maintenance, and query languages (SQL)
Familiarity with modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Node, Django, FastAPI, etc.) and an interest in user interfaces design
Proven expertise in data engineering building, managing, and maintaining ELT processes in production environments
Knowledge of source control and DevOps best practices
A passion for the game of basketball and a creativity for finding data and software solutions
Ability to work in a collaborative setting and communicate technical concepts to non-technical people
Flexibility to adapt to frequently changing work environment, and deliver on challenging demands
Interpersonal skills – ability to maintain confidentiality, listens to others, and willing to try new ideas
Excellent critical reasoning skills with the proven ability to partner across functionally and effectively build links
Excellent communication skills including written and verbal; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely
Presents self in professional manner and have ability to interact with all levels of the organization and outside contacts.
Available to work a variable schedule, including holidays, nights, weekends, and Hornets games
