We are looking for a passionate, hard-working and creative developer to work on software that will improve the efficiency and connectedness of the entire Basketball Operations department. Projects will vary and will involve collaboration with front office, coaching, and scouting groups.

This role will require familiarization with and adaptation to an existing large codebase, as well as self-direction and initiative in creating tools on an ad-hoc basis. Any applicant must be able to effectively prioritize and balance the maintenance of existing features with the development of new components. Most importantly, we are looking for someone with a passion for working in basketball who will push our group forward with new ideas and a unique perspective.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Build and maintain web/mobile applications to improve the efficiency and creativity of Basketball Operations.

  • Work closely with two existing senior developers within the Basketball Analytics group on the planning, design, development, and ongoing maintenance of basketball software projects.

  • Collaborate in the enhancement of objective player evaluation models as well as in the creation of new metrics and models.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in developing complex full-stack web software, including front-end and back-end development.

  • Experience with modern JavaScript, React, CSS.

  • Experience working in a team environment using Github and code reviews; eagerness to adapt to new collaborative processes.

  • Detail-oriented and desire to make “eye-popping” applications.

  • Strong passion for working in the NBA.

  • Strong communication and writing skills.

  • Ability and desire to learn rapidly and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with TypeScript.

  • Experience with Node.JS.

  • Interest and experience in UI/UX design.

  • Experience with CSS utilities like Tailwind, Emotion.

  • Experience with SQL, Python.

  • Interest and experience with JavaScript data visualization tools (d3.js, Victory, Recharts, Nivo, etc.).

  • Interest and experience with visually compelling multimedia features like HTML Video and WebGL.

  • Familiarity with Unix environment.

  • Familiarity with cutting-edge JavaScript tools and libraries, and strong opinions about code architecture and process.

  • Experience in Data Engineering.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to travel on occasion; trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay for one or more nights.

SALARY Range

$110,000 - $130,000

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Open to both working primarily in an office environment or fully remote but is expected to be available on some evenings, weekends and holidays, due to the NBA schedule.
