The Minor League Education Coordinator will be responsible for the education of Atlanta Braves’ minor league baseball players, primarily teaching English as a second language (ESL) to international players at the organization’s training complex in North Port, FL. The Minor League Education Coordinator will work in conjunction with the Cultural Development staff of the Atlanta Braves’ Player Development department, and is expected to relate to, guide and mentor the young ballplayers coming up through the Braves’ minor league system.
Major responsibilities:
Serve as ESL instructor at the Atlanta Braves’ training complex in North Port, FL
Work with administrative and field staff to schedule and coordinate ESL lessons for minor league ballplayers located in Florida and at the organization’s full-season minor league affiliates across the southeast
Evaluate the ESL development (via video and other methods) of these ballplayers, and track their progress as they move through the Atlanta Braves’ minor league system
Work in conjunction with the Cultural Development staff to create a curriculum and lesson plan for ESL instruction for all minor league international players in the Atlanta Braves’ system
Coordinate workshops and other events to enhance the development of minor leaguers away from the baseball field
Build and manage relationships with personnel in the Education department at the Office of the Commissioner for Major League Baseball
Assist with administrative tasks regarding minor league players as needed
Required Qualifications:
College degree
Fluent in both English and Spanish
Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
Ability to work based on the schedule dictated by the professional baseball season, including nights and weekends when necessary
Must complete a successful background check
Preferred qualifications:
Experience working in the mental and psychological development of teenagers and young adults
ESL instruction certificate
Passion to work in professional sports and education
Experience working under the Major League Baseball umbrella or for one of its 30 clubs
