Indiana Pacers Basketball Strategy Season Associate

Season Associate Start Date: September 2023 (exact date TBD)

Season Associate End Date: July 15, 2024

Anticipated Time Commitment: approximately 20 - 30 hours per week

Pacers Sports & Entertainment is seeking a Basketball Strategy Season Associate that is highly motivated, organized, and passionate about basketball. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Basketball Operations and will support the department in all salary cap and CBA strategy related matters. Knowledge of the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement is not required but is a plus. The Basketball Strategy Season Associate will focus on preparing analyses of player contracts, trades, and team salaries, assist in contract and compliance related administrative tasks and issues, and contribute strategic insight into roster construction and transactions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and update salary cap sheets, team rosters, free agent lists, and other related reports.
  • Assist with data collection, maintenance, preparation, and analysis of player contracts, trades, team salaries, and salary cap projections.
  • Perform research related to player valuation and resource allocation to assist with contract negotiations and trade/draft pick decisions.
  • File and organize player contracts and other administrative paperwork.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses on long-term data for salary cap system/CBA trends.
  • Collaborate on team projects and work autonomously on individual work.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business or Law-Related field.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to critically listen and work with others.
  • Strong time-management skills and attention to detail.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and/or understanding of the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Demonstrated skills with data management and analytics software.
  • Experience working with and manipulating large datasets.
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Employee should have a strong knowledge of MS Office, Microsoft Windows, and the Internet as well as the ability to a learn and utilize new computer programs quickly and efficiently.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, and communicate findings in an organized and easy to understand summary. Ability to interpret directions and technical diagrams.
