
Marketing - Historical Curator
Working under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Legacy Engagement, the Historical Curator will be responsible for leading the assembly of the organization’s first-ever official team archive and creating engaging exhibit displays for fans to view. This person will assist in the implementation of the Ravens mission, marketing goals and objectives while carrying out daily duties.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct activities involved with all aspects of the team’s archives, including acquisitions, preservation, conservation, cataloging, research and display
Establish collections management policies and agreements, organization and storage procedures and archival guidelines
Identify and assess existing memorabilia and artifacts currently in possession of the Ravens
Archive materials, including sorting, boxing, bagging, tagging and labeling
Solicit and negotiate with outside individuals/organizations to obtain artifacts via loan, donation or acquisition
Process, catalog, examine, authenticate, research and preserve incoming and outgoing objects and collections, including film, print, video, photography and memorabilia
Conceptualize, design and execute exhibits including selecting objects, integrating objects, display and interpretive information and preparing publications to accompany exhibits
Manage the installation of permanent, temporary and traveling exhibits
Obtain, develop and organize new collections and exhibits to expand and enhance the organization’s ability to attract visitors
Integrate STEAM educational programming around football and artifacts to create opportunities for students to engage with team history
Create a comprehensive plan for exhibits, lighting, cleaning and maintenance of artifacts
Write text panels, object labels and item descriptions
Identify historical artifacts missing from the team archives and find avenues to obtain necessary items
Develop and present original gallery and history presentations delivered to classes, visiting groups and the public
Work with Ravens equipment staff regarding current player items for the archives and display
Network with historical organizations and museums to stay current on industry trends and updates
Oversee operating budget
Proactively support organizational efforts to preserve the Baltimore Ravens history
Assist with Ravens Legends Community events as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by the Sr. Manager, Legacy Engagement
Required Education and/or Experience:
Degree in Library Sciences, Museum Studies or related field preferred
Minimum 5 years related experience
Thorough knowledge of collection preservation, cataloging and ability to create exhibits
Understanding of accessioning principles and standards
Utilization of recognized archival and records management practices
Ability to learn and understand the history of our organization
Ability to communicate the Ravens history to the public
Excellent writing and presentation skills
Strong research skills and experience
Requisite Abilities and/or Skills:
Passion for and deep knowledge of football, past and present; customer focus, attention to detail and operational excellence are of profound importance
Must be able to effectively work on and manage several tasks/projects at one time while remaining flexible, organized and keeping key stakeholders in the loop
Keen ability to build strong relationships with business partners, vendors and fans as well as maintain objective position when asked to evaluate. Ability to build and instill trust is vital
Computer skills including Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Teams & PowerPoint), photograph databasing (Photo Shelter preferred) and archival software (Past Perfect preferred). Knowledge of a project management tool, such as Asana
Must have the ability to work long hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
Ability to lift and shuffle items up to 50lbs a must
