We are seeking a Falcons Digital Team Reporter who is passionate about football and committed to telling powerful stories that represent both the team and the city of Atlanta. This person must be a professional and creative storyteller who can produce, edit, and write for various digital and social media platforms. They should also be comfortable on camera and able to make editorial decisions based on the most compelling storylines from games, practices and press availabilities.

The Falcons Digital Team Reporter is expected to build and maintain strong relationships with the Falcons communications department, players, coaches, and other staff. This includes working collaboratively with team personnel to create engaging content.

As part of their editorial responsibilities, the Falcons Digital Team Reporter will be responsible for covering the team similar to a beat writer. This includes reporting on all roster moves as soon as possible and ensuring that all editorial pieces are accurate and up to date. They should be able to work under tight deadlines, have excellent time-management skills and must be able to perform their job independently, without much need for oversight.

The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in multimedia journalism but must be a proficient writer. They must also possess a deep knowledge of football, an ability to comprehend and synthesize advanced stats for the fans, plus a passion for storytelling. While writing skills are a priority, this position will work closely with the video and social media departments. A quality candidate must also be able to capture video content by phone for our social channels. They must be comfortable on-camera as an analyst and interviewer, ready to be part of video podcasts, studio shows, social-media posts and quick-turn reactions to breaking news.

They should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others. They should also be able to stay up to date with the latest trends in digital media and be comfortable using various platforms to tell compelling stories.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with the digital managing editor to create daily, football-specific editorial and packaged content for Falcons digital, including the team's official website and social channels.
Identify key storylines and trends to ensure comprehensive coverage of the team.
Manage a detailed editorial calendar for Falcons digital properties and contribute to the growth of the Falcons editorial vision, voice, and strategy to increase daily visitors and followers.
Develop strong relationships with players, coaches and staff to find stories that others miss.
Produce unique, compelling short- and long-form stories, including features on players, coaches, events, and news.
Utilize time in open locker room settings for feature stories and videos.
Maintain SEO best practices in creating content across all platforms.
Create multimedia content (written, video, or audio) that showcases the human side of players, coaches, and staff and reflects the city of Atlanta.
Monitor and analyze metrics to help drive content performance and fan engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum 2+ years of professional experience in journalism, media, editorial newsroom, or related field.
Minimum of one year covering a beat for a professional independent news outlet or team site, either as a full-time employee or an intern.
Strong journalism and editorial skills, including proven success driving metrics and engagement within digital / social media platforms.
Ability to meet aggressive editorial deadlines.
Proficient in digital publishing tools and content management systems.
Experience with producing multimedia content, including writing, video, and audio.
Knowledge of SEO best practices and search engine friendly headlines.
Passionate about football and storytelling.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Comfortable on camera and able to make decisions based on the most compelling storylines.
