Assistant Director of Turf Maintenance

The Assistant Director of Turf Maintenance is assigned with assisting in the operation and management of the playing surface.

This job is located at the Atlanta Braves Spring Training Facility in North Port, Florida.

General Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Total playing surface maintenance, including cutting, game ready preparation, complete fertilization application and equipment maintenance

  • Stadium landscaping

Additional Roles

The following may be further requirements of the position:

  • Interviews, hires, trains, directs and supervises a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the stadium, Major & Minor League Playing fields, and surrounding properties.

  • Assists in keeping accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, chemical applications, etc.;

  • Specifies, purchases (or leases) equipment and necessary supplies/materials to maintain the playing surface and adjacent landscapes

  • Helps manage inventory and oversees the preventive equipment maintenance and replacement programs;

  • Baseball Specific: Manages infield skin, mound and home plate areas, grass to skin transition

Employment Requirements:

  • Must have at least two years’ experience in professional baseball setting.

  • Ability to manage, supervise and train seasonal staff.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Familiarity and understanding of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management and operations of sports fields and facilities (including, but not limited to employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations);

  • Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, web-based training courses, field days and trade shows;

  • May require certification as a Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM), and current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.

  • Work non-traditional hours, including baseball season and stadium special events.

  • Knowledge of 419 Bermuda, rye grass transitions, wear and replacement, zoned irrigation and weather forecasting.
